Instead of big voluminous waves, a hairstyle synonymous to red carpet glam, Bollywood is going the minimalist route, and trying something much more muted and subtle—the sleek hairdo.

We’re talking super straight, silky and ultra-shiny hair with not a strand out of place. It’s as sophisticated as it is slick, and perfect for any evening occasion.

With your hair parted in the middle or side take your super smooth tresses and tie them up into a neat chignon at the nape like Alia Bhatt and Aditi Rao Hydari. Or add a crown braid in the mix to uplift your regular top knot like Neha Dhupia.

Freida Pinto and Anushka Sharma’s romantic version, a smooth half pony tied at the back with the rest of the hair falling straight on the shoulders is great for short hair.

But if you don’t want to keep it super sleek, let a few strands loose in the front, like Shraddha Kapoor.

And the simplest way to go sleek: do absolutely nothing. Leave it all untied, with a centre part like Sonakshi Sinha, smear some hair oil, to keep the frizz in control and the baby hair from flying away.

Swipe through for inspiration and product recommendations.
